The South African Family Practice (SAFP) journal strives to provide primary care teams, as well as researchers, with a broad range of scholarly work in the practice, training and learning of Family Medicine, Primary Care, Primary Health Care, Rural Medicine, District Health and other related fields.
SAFP publishes original research, clinical reviews, and pertinent commentary that advance the knowledge base of these fields.
The content of SAFP is designed to reflect and support further development of the broad basis of the family medicine and primary health care philosophy through original research and critical review of evidence in important clinical areas; as well as to provide practitioners with continuing professional development material.

Types of articles include Original Research Articles, Scientific Letters, Open Forum, CPD Articles, Editorials, Letters to the Editor, and Book Reviews.

The journal publishes at least one continuous issue each year. Additional issues may be published for special events (e.g. conferences) and when special themes are addressed.
