The South African Journal of Childhood Education (SAJCE) is a peer–reviewed journal that provides a forum for the dissemination of research in childhood learning and development and the care and education of children from birth to 12 years. The journal is interdisciplinary in scope and seeks to stimulate the exchange of ideas in a variety of subjects, contexts, and issues in childhood education and child care. The editors welcome articles that show evidence of robust empirical research that is also theoretically strong. SAJCE aims to be a scholarly forum in a specialised field that has long been neglected in the South African and regional educational research community. This journal is open to a range of submissions. These include statistical research on young children’s learning and development, large scale surveys of learning environments, evaluation studies of teaching practice and school management, as well as ethnographic– and case studies of individuals and groups of children, or their teachers and care providers. The journal also publishes review articles and book reviews. Additionally, the editors are keen to receive theoretical work on learning, development and conceptual change during the early years of schooling in a variety of contexts and will, furthermore, give special preference to manuscripts that that report on longitudinal studies. The journal has relevance to policy–makers, researchers, classroom teachers, school managers and teacher educators in childhood education and care. This is also why there is a strong ethos of researcher/author capacity development in the journal. New researchers are assisted by the editorial office in preparing and revising manuscripts and also in learning to review manuscripts. SAJCE will consider high–quality research that analyses and interrogates current issues, trends, policies and practices in childhood education and care. The following are topical areas:
The journal publishes one issue each year. Articles are published online when ready for publication. An additional issue may be published for a special event. The abbreviated key title is S. Afr. j. child. educ. (Online). The publication language for both abstracts and articles is English. |
