The South African Journal of Animal Science, published by the South African Society of Animal Science (previously the South African Society of Animal Production), is a peer–reviewed, open access journal that welcomes submissions from scientists from all regions of the world on all matters germane to the science of animal production, dealing with livestock species as well as pertinent aspects of research on aquatic and wildlife species. The main disciplines covered are nutrition, genetics, physiology and production aspects of animal products. Papers dealing with sociological aspects of well–defined livestock production systems are also invited, providing they are scientific by nature and have been carried out in a systematic way. The South African Journal of Animal Science is ISI Rated (Agriculture, Dairy and Animal Science Impact factor) with a 2016/2017 Impact factor of 0.678 (Thomson Reuters Journal Citation Reports 2017). Copyright resides with the authors in terms of the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 South African Licence. The average turnaround time for article consolidation is 39 days, the average overall journal rejection rate is 50%, and 70% of this is desk–rejection. One volume is published per year with 6 issues, published in March, May, July, September, November and January. The abbreviated key title of the journal is S. Afr. J. Anim. Sci.. |
